Six-Six-Six

Glitz is Slitz, no, Six.

June 30th marked the sixth in a series of the monthly installment of the Nation-wide, no, make that internationally known Glam Rock party, Club Glitz. Brought to you by the rock band famous for being famous, Blue Period.

The ever-expanding production had lined up four bands for June. Count'em, four! With a ten-buck cover, that's $2.50 a band. This latest CG took to the darker side of glamour and the three opening bands made BP look positively Bubble Gum by comparison. The only light-hearted thing about this Glitz was Diva and MC, Patty O Furniture tossing plaid panties and bras to the worthy.

Taking the stage for an early start around 9:30, the evening's first band, The Hell Brothers are all black tee shirts and tattoos. Dark and darker, these strong and handsome men rocked hard and thanked Blue Period after a set that was all too short. But they had to make way for the next band.

All the Pretty Horses traveled here all the way from Minneapolis. Minneapolis? Yes, Minneapolis. They number five with three musicians and two dancers who ceremoniously slithered and shook with light tubes and dramatized already dramatic lyrics. A hard-hitting set peaked with a finale that started with a wheel saw on a dancer's chastity belt, so sparks flew and then we got a Glam Metal Goth cover of Falling in Love Again dedicated to Marlene. Minneapolis? Yeah, yeah, Minneapolis. At the break, six foot two plus leader, the stunning Venus, expressed genuine delight that they were received so nicely here. It was ATPH's first trip to San Francisco. It will not be their last.

The local and the gorgeous, Venus Bleeding from Oakland will convince even the jaded that there is a there there. With red wings yet. The singing gets stronger with every gig. They have a new CD with cover art designed by Blue Period's own Renaissance Rocker, Adrian Roberts.

With this abundance of musical acts, the usual in-between entertainment was a little overshadowed. The wandering whipped cream wandered and the Glamour Booth glamoured and Dark Sparkle sparkled darkly. But the music was so forceful and serious and it took over for the night.

It was after midnight when Blue Period took the stage for their turn. Playing mostly favorites, the evening ended with an encore cover of "Do You Love Me?" With friends and fans joining BP on stage for a group-grope that showed us all what a close following this band has, literally and figuratively.

Next month's Club Glitz on July 28 will, once again, redefine 'over the top' and feature a fashion show from Stormy Leather and swag for the Instant Classic, Cult Favorite (yes, you can be both) film, Hedwig and The Angry Inch.
